How shall we keep God's commandment?

Understand the Heart of Obedience: Love for Jesus John 14:15 (ESV): If you love me, you will keep my commandments. Obedience is the natural fruit of love: When we truly love someone, we want to please them. The same is true with Jesus. We don't obey to earn His love- we obey because we already love him. From this verse of Exodus 20:1-7 is a powerful verse from the Ten Commandments. 1. You shall have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:3) - WORSHIP ONLY THE ONE TRUE GOD. 2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. you shall not bow down to them or serve them. (Exodus 20:4-6) - DO NOT MAKE OR WORSHIP IDOLS OR IMAGES OF ANY CREATED THING. 3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain. (Exodus 20:7) - DO NOT MISUSE GOD'S NAME ( IN SWEARING, CURSING, OR FLIPPANTLY) 4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. (Exodus 20:8-11) - SET ASIDE THE SABBATH FOR REST AND WORSHIP 5. Honor your parents, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. (Exodus 20:12) - RESPECT AND CARE FOR YOUR PARENTS 6. You shall not murder (Exodus 20:13) - DO NOT TAKE ANOTHER HUMAN LIFE UNLAWFULLY. 7. You shall not commit adultery. (Exodus 20:14) - BE FAITHFUL IN MARRIAGE; DO NOT HAVE SEXUAL RELATIONS OUTSIDE OF MARRIAGE. 8. You shall not steal (Exodus 20:15) - DO NOT TAKE WHAT BELONGS TO OTHERS. 9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. (Exodus 20:16) - DO NOT LIE, ESPECIALLY IN A WAY THAT HARMS OTHERS. 10. You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's. (Exodus 20:17) - DO NOT DESIRE WHAT BELONGS TO OTHERS. Jesus Himself gives the foundation in the verse you chose: John 14:15 (ESV): If you love, you will keep my commandments. Example: "Do not lie" protects relationships and trust. "Honor your father and mother" brings stability and blessing. "Love your neighbor" creates peace in families and communities. How do we keep God's commandments? We love Jesus with all our hearts. We trust that His commands are for our good. We depend on the Holy Spirit to help us. We keep going even when we fail, because His grace is bigger than our mistakes. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: To keep commandments carefully: 1. Study the Word daily: Read and meditate on Scriptures like these to remind yourself. 2. Pray for Strength: Ask the Holy Spirit for help, as promised in John 14:16-17. 3. Community Accountability: Share in groups like the Bible Study to encourage one another. 4. Start Small: Focus on one command (forgiveness or generosity) and build from there. GOD'S COMMANDS ARE FOR OUR GOOD. PRAYER: LORD, HELP US LOVE YOU MORE, TRUST YOU FULLY, AND OBEY YOU CAREFULLY, KNOWING YOUR WAYS ARE FOR OUR BLESSING. AMEN!
